On September 24th, the Young Actuaries Initiative welcomed numerous participants to the conference “Building Bridges Together” to explore the impact young actuaries can have within their local, European, and international associations. The conference took place in Paris, France, in combination with the Annual Meeting of the Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE).
A panel of young actuaries from France, Germany, and the Netherlands shared best practices for motivating young professionals to engage with their associations while also discussing the initiatives these organizations offer to support their younger members. On stage, we welcomed:
• Alexandra Kettenhoven (Institut des actuaires, France)
• Johanna Borsch-Schämann (Deutsche Aktuarvereinigung, Germany)
• Lea Emsalem (Institut des actuaires, France)
• Vanessa Dietze (Deutsche Aktuarvereinigung, Germany)
• Melissa van Wingerden (Koninklijk Actuarieel Genootschap, Netherlands)

This engaging and informative gathering opened the door to new connections and encouraged actuaries – both early-career and experienced – to exchange insights about their professional journeys and future aspirations.
After the event, the young actuaries stayed for the AAE Meetings and joined several meetings of the European committees. All of them experienced exciting two days with many insights into the volunteer work at the European umbrella organisation and used the opportunity to increase their internationals networks.
